Secondary school students in the Ottawa Catholic School Board will not write exams this school year, as the COVID-19 pandemic causes another major change to the way our children learn.
Typically, most secondary school courses are required to include a final evaluation, worth 30 per cent of the student's overall mark.
Ontario's Ministry of Education gave school boards the option of whether their students would write exams during the 2020-2021 school year.
The Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) is the latest to take the option, after several boards in other parts of the province cancelled exams for their students.
In an e-mail to 1310 NEWS, a spokesperson for the OCSB confirmed that the board's secondary school students will still complete a major assignment, called a Rich Summative Task, at or near the end of the quadmester, to demonstrate comprehension of the course's overall expectations.
A spokesperson for the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board confirmed that all exam days have been removed from the calendar, and all final grades will be based on term work.
While all school boards have been given the option of cancelling high school exams, several local school boards have yet to indicate their plans.
The Upper Canada District School Board said it planned to release its plans, Wednesday afternoon.
