Ottawa firefighters extinguish flames in Vanier basement apartment

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) is on the scene of a basement apartment fire in Vanier.
OFS crews responded to the incident at 12:57 p.m., on Wednesday, December 23, on Lafontaine Avenue, between Blake Boulevard and McArthur Avenue.
The 911 caller told OFS a fire in the kitchen had gotten out of control, but everyone had made it out of the apartment safely.
Firefighters arrived on the scene at 1:02 p.m., and had it the fire under control at 1:16 p.m.
Officials say the fire was contained to the one basement unit in the three-storey apartment building.
One person is expected to be displaced by the incident.
An Ottawa fire investigator will be looking into what caused the blaze.
Firefighters provided first aid to a neighbouring resident and transferred care to the Ottawa Paramedic Service.
