Four schools in Ottawa Valley confirm COVID-19 cases over 24-hour period

Four schools with the Upper Canada District School Board are reaching out to students and parents following confirmed cases of COVID-19.
According to a Thursday announcement from the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit and the Eastern Ontario Health Unit, at least one individual at each of the confirmed schools have tested positive for the virus within the last 24 hours.
These schools include:
- Bridgewood Public School in Cornwall
- Eamer’s Corners Public School in Cornwall
- Caldwell Street Public School in Carleton Place
- Pleasant Corners Public School in Vankleek Hill
At Bridgewood Public School, the EOHU has declared a COVID-19 outbreak. An outbreak is declared when two or more individuals have tested positive for the virus, at least one of which is linked to possible transmission at the school or on student transportation.
However, the school has been closed since April 7, so the new cases do not pose any new risk to staff and students at the school.
At Caldwell and Eamer’s Corners, the health units are actively communicating with anyone at the school who may have had a high-risk exposure.
At Pleasant Corners, the EOHU confirmed that the individuals were not at school while infectious, so there is no exposure within the school environment.
Caldwell Street, Eamer’s Corners and Pleasant Corners remain open and operating on their regular schedules.
The health units did not disclose if the confirmed cases were among students and/or staff.
