MPP Joel Harden's office continues to be flooded with complaints from Ottawa transit users, as well as those who work in transit, regarding the ongoing light rail disruption.
Harden told the Sam Laprade Show on Monday, November 8, that proper leadership is still needed when it comes to providing transparency for transit users.
“What people really need is someone with the power to force disclousure for Rideau Transit Group (RTG) to cough up access for the contract and documents that we need to make an informed decision about what needs to be fixed.”
Harden explained that since the RTG contracts are not made available for MPPs or the public, he said he is confident that Ontario Auditor General Bonnie Lysyk could provide some answers.
“She has the power to compell disclosure,” he said. “She has the power to look at every single aspect of this contract.”
He said he made a call weeks ago for Lysyk to investigate the infrastructure of the system as well as to determine what the province's role is in fixing Ottawa's light rail system.
Last week, a letter was sent from the provincial government to the city, which threatened to withdraw funding from the LRT.
