Barrhaven’s Half Moon Bay Public School closed due to COVID-19 outbreak

By Mike Vlasveld

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board says Half Moon Bay Public School in Barrhaven will be closed for at least 72 hours after a COVID-19 outbreak.

Thirteen of the school's students have tested positive for COVID-19 since December 1, according to the school board. The closure was announced Monday, December 6, in order to help prevent any further transmission of COVID-19.

Ottawa Public Health (OPH) requested the closure to all students and staff.

The duration of the outbreak and the school closure is not yet known, but families were told that they should be prepared for a closure of 72 hours pending further investigation.

There were 17 Ottawa schools dealing with COVID-19 outbreaks as of Sunday. OPH will be updating its outbreak dashboard on Monday at 12:30 p.m.
