Rideau Vanier Coun. Mathieu Fleury revealed on May 10 he was not seeking re-election in this fall's municipal election.
The veteran city councillor, who was first elected to represent the Rideau-Vanier ward in 2010, has served three terms on council. Fleury was 24 when he was first elected.
Representing the residents of Rideau–Vanier over the last 12 years has been the privilege of a lifetime. I am proud of what our community has accomplished and look forward to seeing it grow.

“Thank you for having confidence in me,” said Fleury in a video message posted on YouTube. “When I first joined municipal politics, I simply wanted to make a difference in our community and focusing on the things that matter.”
Fleury noted he's proud of the accomplishments the city made while he was on council, especially the subject of affordable housing, where Ottawa is now in a position to build one thousand new affordable housing units per year which will help make a difference in the capital.
“Representing the residents of Rideau–Vanier over the last 12 years has been the privilege of a lifetime,” he said on Twitter. “I am proud of what our community has accomplished and look forward to seeing it grow.”
Fleury said he's not going very far.
“Ottawa is still my home and I am determined to shape our exceptional city in new ways,” he continued.
With Fleury's announcement, there will be at least eight new councillors at city hall after the municipal election in October.
There will also be a new mayor, as Mayor Jim Watson announced he is not seeking re-election.
