Not perfect, but pretty solid.
That's the sentiment from Michael Aube, president and grain merchandiser with Chesterville's Rutters Elevators, as he told The Rob Snow Show on Monday, July 4 regarding growing conditions in Ottawa for products such as corn and soy beans.
“Maybe not the amount of energy we would want because we didn't have the heat so far but we had an abundance of rain and things are coming along really well,” he said.
However, Aube said the price of fuel, fertilizer and other products have doubled, causing a strain on local farming.
“We are crossing our fingers to see how we make out,” he added.
Aube said he has his eyes on the weather over the next two weeks and looking forward to the winter season, adding there should be a solid wheat crop.
