Toronto-based rock band the The Beaches are excited to be among the musicians capping off the first in-person edition of RBC Bluesfest since 2019.
The band is set to hit the stage at LeBreton Flats on Sunday, July 17 alongside acts such as the The National and Andy Shauf for the final night of the festival.
“I can't believe it's been like two years since we've been to Ottawa — it feels insane,” The Beaches guitarist and keyboardist Leandra Earl told CityNews Ottawa. “We're really excited to get back there, the crowds are really fun. I can't wait.”
The Beaches last performed in Ottawa in February 2020, shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic broke out. Earl said it's great to be able to get back on the road.
“We just semi-finished our Future Lovers tour in May and we have a couple Toronto shows in August but it was so great to be back on the road,” Earl said. “We really missed it and we missed seeing all our fans and all the familiar faces.”
She added those coming to see The Beaches are in for some rock and roll and a good party.
“We're four genuine best friends on stage having the time of our lives playing rock and roll — it's not super hard rock so don't get scared. ” Earl explained. “It's just really high energy. We're jumping around and having the best time with the crowd.”
The Beaches have performed alongside several high-profile musicians ranging from Avril Lavigne to The Rolling Stones, but Earl feels opening for Foo Fighters takes the top spot.
“Foo Fighters was iconic,” she reflected. “These are just shows I can't believe we played and then I look back and I'm like 'Did that happen?' … [The shows] were so big that I would get on stage and kind of black out out of nervousness.”
The Beaches are slated to perform at the River Stage at RBC Bluesfest on Sunday, July 17 at 9:30 p.m.
