Barrhaven saw the highest crime spike in Ottawa last year, and one municipal candidate wants to do something about it.
Jay Chadha, who is running for councillor in Barrhaven West, created an online petition calling for more police presence in the ward amidst the 20.7 per cent jump in crime rates.
He’s heard from residents who say their cars were broken into, damaged and even stolen from their driveways.
According to the petition, Cobbie Hill residents and co-creators of the petition, Kiranpal Singh and Ranjit Dhaliwal, captured their car being stolen on their video surveillance system. They immediately called the police but said little action was taken.
Chadha said that crime trends in the area are only going up, which he said is unacceptable.
“As a community of 100,000 people, we need to be better served by police resources,” he said.
The goal of the petition is to reach over 200 signatures.
