OPP team charges Ottawa resident with trafficking unstamped tobacco

The Ontario Provincial Police Contraband Tobacco Enforcement Team (CTET) has charged one person in connection with trafficking unstamped tobacco.
OPP officers and investigators from the Ministry of Finance make up the CTET, which began an investigation in May of this year involving a resident of Ottawa.
On Aug. 10, members of the CTET and OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau – East, executed five search warrants across Ottawa, including a residence. As a result, officers seized over 370,000 unstamped cigarettes, over 500 kilograms of unstamped shisha tobacco and an amount of Canadian currency.
A 65-year-old male from Ottawa was arrested and charged with:
- Trafficking unstamped tobacco
- Possession for resale other tobacco product
- Possession of other tobacco product
- Possession of unmarked cigarettes for sale
- Possession of unmarked cigarettes
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Ottawa on Oct. 12, 2022.
