Renfrew man facing eight charges following break and enter, altercation

A Renfrew man is facing a long list of charges following an altercation near a local business. 

Around 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, members of the Renfrew County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to complaints regarding two people fighting outside a business on Raglan Street South in Renfrew. 

When police arrived on scene, an individual reported a break and enter at a residence on Gillan Road and said a number of items stolen were being sold for cash. 

According to the OPP, a fight broke out when the victim confronted the accused thief. 

As a result of the investigation, police have charged Mark Henry Lyle Barr, 41, with the following offences:

  • Causing a disturbance
  • Assault
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Break, enter a place-commit indictable offence
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 
  • Mischief-obstructs, interrupts, or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property
  • Fail to comply with probation order (two counts)
  • Possession of a schedule I substance-opioid-other than heroin

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Renfrew on March 1, 2023.
