‘Significant snowfall’ expected Wednesday: Environment Canada

By CityNews Ottawa

Ottawa and the Valley are in for more snow this week.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for Ottawa and the surrounding areas warning of a significant snowfall Wednesday night into Thursday.

Heavy and blowing snow is also expected at times which could lead to hazardous winter travel conditions.

CityNews Weather Specialist Denise Andreachhi said Ottawa could see light snowfall Tuesday, but heavy snow is expected the next day. “And then more of a high-impact snowfall late day Wednesday, near 10 centimetres, (and) an additional five to eight centimetres Thursday,” said Andreachhi. If temperatures drop, there could be a risk of freezing rain for the Smiths Falls region, she added.

Colder winter-like temperatures are expected from Wednesday onward.

Merrickville-Wolford, Kemptville, Smiths Falls, and Winchester are also under the special weather statement.
