Basement fire on Meadowlands Drive quickly extinguished by Ottawa firefighters Friday night

Ottawa firefighters quickly tackled a basement fire on Meadowlands Drive, Friday night.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) were called to the neighbourhood, near Beliveau Street and Eagle Lane, after a 911 caller reported his basement was on fire, just before midnight. Once crews arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and flames. Even though the fire was contained to the basement, the first floor was compromised because of the fire.

The fire was under control at 12:44 a.m. and two firefighters suffered minor injuries.

Crews confirmed there was no one inside the home, and a fire investigator was called to the scene.
