Kanata school named after Julie Payette to get new name

By CityNews Ottawa

Ottawa’s French public school board is pulling former governor general Julie Payette’s name off of one of its Kanata elementary schools.

Le Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario (CEPEO) said, in a release, the school’s new name will be L’école élémentaire publique Grande-Ourse, beginning this fall.

The school’s families voted to select the new name from a list of options.

Payette resigned as governor general in January 2021. An independent workplace review concluded that Payette presided over a toxic work environment at Rideau Hall.
