Flood warning remains in effect for Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority area

By CityNews Ottawa

Residents in the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) area are advised to remain vigilant as the Flood Warning issued on May 3rd remains in effect. Though water levels have peaked in some areas, levels and flows are expected to remain high in the upcoming days.

According to the MVCA, all lakes in the upper watershed have been slowly declining, but it will be at least a week before they reach summer target levels.

However, levels on Dalhousie Lake continue to increase due to excess water coming from the upper watershed, with an additional 5 cm increase in water levels possible before the expected peak in the next few days.

Flows on the Clyde River have been dropping steadily since last week, while water levels on Mississippi Lake have already peaked. Flows in the lower Mississippi River are also leveling off and are expected to peak today. Above-average water levels are anticipated over the next two weeks as excess water moves downstream through the system.

This Watershed Conditions Statement will be in effect until the end of the day on Tuesday, May 16th, 2023, and will be updated at that time unless the forecasts change.
