Nepean Sportsplex celebrates 50th anniversary

It’s a major milestone for a local recreation facility.

The Nepean Sportsplex, a cornerstone for residents to participate in sports, events, cultural and community programs, turned 50 on Thursday, June 8.

“It was just a place where everyone congregated,” says Mary Pitt, former mayor of Nepean. “The people of Nepean loved it, but not only Nepean — but people coming in from all over the area.”

Built in 1973, she says it became a central meeting place for many community members.

One of Pitt’s fondest memories was the opening of the skating arena, were she got to try driving a Zamboni.
“That was the most fun I’ve ever had.”

The Nepean Sportsplex has been a cornerstone for residence to participate in sports, events, cultural and community programs.

In celebration they are asking residents to share a memory, a photo or unique event they attended at the facility for a chance to win a prize.
