Mobile skin cancer clinic rolling into Ottawa this weekend

A mobile skin cancer screening clinic is setting up in Ottawa’s east end this weekend.

Melanoma Canada is bringing it’s ‘Mole Mobile’ to the Dominion Brewing Company on Canotek Road to allow residents to show up for a walk in skin check with dermatologist Dr. Mike Connolly.

The first of its kind in Canada, the mobile clinic is making stops in major Canadian cities with long wait times to see a dermatologist, rural and Indigenous regions and underserved communities in order to help speed up the time to diagnosis.

According to CDC statistics from 2016, Melanoma and skin cancer are one of few cancers with rising incidence rates in Canada and around the world, with incidence rates for new melanoma cases rising on average 1.4 per cent each year over the last 10 years.

Also, one in three cancers diagnosed are skin cancers, which is detected early, are largely treatable.

Ottawa residents can visit the screening clinic on Saturday, Aug. 26 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday, Aug. 27 From 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
