Federal government turning several of its Ottawa properties into new homes

The federal government revealed that it is transforming some its properties across Ottawa into over 1,600 new homes.

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Public Services and Procurement Jean-Yves Duclos and President of the Treasury Board Anita Anand said in an announcement on Tuesday, Nov. 7 that government buildings in Ottawa will be used for 307 homes at Wateridge Village, 600 homes at Carling Avenue, and 710 homes on Booth Street, including 221 affordable homes.

A total of six surplus federal properties will be developed into more than 2,800 new homes in Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton and St. John’s.

The feds said the Crown corporation is on-track to support the construction of more than 29,200 homes across Canada over the next six years.
