SoupShare fundraising lunch will support victims of gender-based violence in Lanark County

A fundraiser being held in Lanark County will raise funds and awareness of gender-based violence.

After a year of successful collaboration, Shelter Movers Ottawa and Lanark County Interval House are hosting their second annual SoupShare.

The family-friendly event provides locals with an opportunity to learn more about the partnership between the two organizations while enjoying soup from local restaurants.

Popular restaurants including Smith & Barrel Pub and The Station will enter their best soups for a friendly competition to be judged by attendees and notable community members, including Carleton Place Mayor Toby Randall.

The event is being held at the Carleton Place Canoe Club at 179 John Street from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16.

Tickets are $10 per person and all proceeds will directly benefit survivors in Lanark County through Shelter Movers Ottawa and Lanark County Interval House.

Following last year’s inquest into a 2015 triple-femicide in Renfrew County, Shelter Movers announced Lanark County Interval House as its first referral agency for gender-based violence survivor services in the region.

Since partnering last year, Shelter Movers Ottawa has successfully completed 61 moves in the Lanark County region.

Organizers say the SoupShare event raises awareness, recruits volunteers, and supports local survivors in making the courageous decision to start a life free from violence.
