Inmate charged after correctional officer assaulted at Collins Bay Institution in Kingston

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges against an inmate at the Collins Bay Institution in Kingston after a correctional officer was “seriously assaulted.”
The incident took place on Dec. 13, just after 1 p.m.
The victim was transported to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Josias Gomex-Moreira, 31, has been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC) with the following offences:
- Aggravated assault of a peace officer with a weapon
- Assault a peace officer with a weapon
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Carrying a concealed weapon
