Ottawa Firefighters stopped an apartment fire from spreading on Monday in the capital’s west end.
Ottawa Fire Service (OFS) says at around 12 p.m., they got a call from a fire alarm company about an active fire at a seniors’ residence on 231 Penfield Drive.
Firefighters say black smoke was coming from the window and the door of one of the ground floor units when they arrived on scene.
They confirmed there were no occupants inside the unit.
OFS says the fire was on the wall near the door and window before being quickly extinguished.
Three units on the first floor close to the fire and multiple units above had smoke inside them and fire crews ventilated them out.
Residents were kept outside until 1:42 p.m. while smoke was cleared out.
No injuries were reported.
Early this year, a fire at the same building left one senior dead.
