Deadline day for interim property taxes

A reminder from the City of Ottawa that today is the deadline to pay your interim property taxes.

Failure to meet the deadline will result in a late penalty charge of 1.25 per cent, which is added the day after the due date and on the first day of each month thereafter.

The city says there are a number of convenient payment options available:

  • Financial institutions – including online or telephone banking.
  • City of Ottawa Client Service Centres
  • Online by payment card: ottawa.ca/paytax
  • By sending a cheque to the City of Ottawa
  • Pre-authorized debit plan (future billings)
  • If you need more property tax information:
  • Check the property tax brochure included with your bill.
  • Call Revenue Services at 613-580-2444(TTY: 613-580-2401). Transactions will be recorded.
  • Email revenue@ottawa.ca
  • Visit the City’s website at ottawa.ca/taxes

The city is also issuing a warning about texting scams in connection with property taxes.

“Increasingly, people receive text messages from imposters posing as a delivery company, financial institution and even the City of Ottawa.”

The city says it never sends text messages about late payments or outstanding amounts, including property taxes, water bills, and provincial offence tickets – such as parking, speeding and red-light cameras.

If you receive a text message, you’re urged to delete it and never click on any links or provide any personal or financial information.
