Ottawa police charge 18-year-old in Michele Heights shooting

Ottawa police have laid charges in a shooting in a west-end neighbourhood that sent a man to hospital.

Officers were called to Michele Drive near Grenon Avenue, on Sunday, December 17th, for reports of gunshots, following several 9-1-1 calls.

A 20-year-old man was found with critical injuries.

An 18-year-old man from Ottawa is now facing a long list of charges:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Discharge firearm with intent
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon
  • Possess restricted or prohibited firearm without holding a licence
  • Possess restricted or prohibited firearm knowingly not holding a licence
  • Possess weapon dangerous to public peace
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Possess firearm while prohibited (3x)

The suspect, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, cannot be identified due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

He is slated to appear in court on Thursday.
