One person airlifted to hospital following fiery crash on Highway 416

One person has suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash involving a transport truck on Highway 416.

Members of the Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the collision on the southbound highway, near Rogers Stevens, around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5.

The collision involved a transport truck and a Ministry of Transportation (MTO) blocker truck, and the impact resulted in both vehicles catching fire.

Ottawa Fire Services also responded to the scene.

The driver of the transport truck was airlifted to hospital with what are expected to be life-altering injuries but is in stable condition.

The driver of the MTO vehicle was transported by ambulance to hospital and is in stable condition.

Highway 416 southbound was closed at Bankfield Road for several hours for the collision investigation but has since reopened.
