The Rideau Lakes ATV Club (RLATV) is holding a charity ride to raise funds for seniors and adults with physical disabilities.
The charity event is in support of Community Home Support Lanark County and will kick off this Saturday, Sept. 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will start at 91 Cornelia St W. in Smiths Falls, but before people hit the pavement, prizes and draws will happen, said RLATV Club.
The non-profit in eastern Ontario said riders will require proof of insurance and a valid OFATV pass (day or year pass) to join in. According to a report, city council has enacted a bylaw to allow the event to take place.
This includes the temporary use of designated highways and roads on on the day of the ride.
The charity ride will travel from the city’s west border towards Marlborough Forest, wrote council in the report.
This route will pass through Ashton Station Road, Purdy Road, Dwyer Hill Road, Jock Trail, Munster Road, Kettles Road, and then the Marlborough Forest Access Roads.
Following lunch in the forest, the ride return route will travel past Paden Road, Dwyer Hill Road, Heaphy Road Allowance, the forest connector to Gilroy Road and Gilroy Road out of the City.
Adopted as a permanent bylaw in 2019, the ATV, ORV, and Snowmobile bylaw provides rules on where these vehicles can operate within the city, including the permitted roadways.
As recommended by city staff, Ottawa will allow ATVs to use the necessary roadways to reach Marlborough Forest Access Roads for the duration of the day on Sep. 21.
ATV riders will be permitted to travel on designated highways and roads, reflected in the map above. This will come to an end on September 22nd.
“Mark your calendars and bring your friends and family along. Let’s come together to make a difference in our community,” wrote RLATV Club on their event page.
