Pembroke collision between SUV, 2 motorcycles sends three to hospital

Police responded to a three-vehicle collision yesterday afternoon that saw three people taken to hospital including one who was airlifted to a trauma centre.

It happened Sept. 30 at around 3:15 p.m. on Mary Street, between Church Street and MacKay Street in Pembroke.

The serious collision closed this portion of Mary Street for seven hours while officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated.

Preliminary evidence shows that a westbound SUV, driven by a 78-year-old man, crossed the centre line and struck two eastbound motorcycles.

The first motorcycle was driven by a 37-year-old male who sustained serious injuries. He was take to hospital by paramedics where he was airlifted to a regional trauma centre. A 37-year-old female passenger was also taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The second motorcycle was driven by a 32-year-old male who was not injured.

The driver of the SUV was taken to hospital for precautionary reasons, police noted.

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of OPP Technical Collision Investigation (TCI) members.
