Two more fires in the Ottawa Region

Ottawa Fire Services responded to two fires, one late last night and one early this morning, and were able to get both under control quickly.

Dispatchers responded to a call from a resident in Lowertown just before midnight and confirmed smoke and flames from an outdoor caged garbage area that was full of garbage and furniture. Firefighters acted fast and were able to control the blaze within seven minutes of being on scene. Firefighters evacuated residents from the building to conduct ventilation until all residual smoke was gone and the air quality was deemed safe for residents to return.

The second call came just shy of 6 a.m. from a monitoring company reporting an active smoke alarm in the Carlington neighbourhood. Firefighters arrived on scene quickly to discover smoke coming from the window of the one-storey single-family home. While advancing a hose line to the home firefighters detected flames, immediately extinguishing the fire coming from the kitchen stove before it reached the cabinets. The fire was under control within six minutes of first responders arriving on scene.

A thorough search was done of the home and no one was found inside except a cat which was brought to safety.

No injuries are suspected to have occurred in either fire.
