Lines 2 and 4 of Ottawa LRT complete ‘successful’ first week of testing

The testing of Lines 2 and 4 of the Ottawa Light Rail Transit (LRT) system has been successful according to a memo from OC Transpo.

Dated Oct. 15, officials said that the first week of testing has resulted in an almost perfect score, with a few issues on four of the eight days noted. The issues had to do with the train vehicles, the memo reads.

Currently, there is a 99.6 per cent rolling average after the first eight days of testing. The system needs to achieve a 98.5 per cent 14-day rolling average to move to the next phase.

The first phase includes simulating regular passenger service on the south extension. This phase of testing will continue until Oct. 21 when the system could move to maintenance scenarios over a seven-day period. This includes issues such as train stops, single platform service, train swaps and door incidents.

The opening of the lines will add eight stations to the city’s growing network, with four new upgrades. According to OC Transpo it will make people’s commutes 15 minutes faster between South Keys and Bayview Station.

Trains are slotted to run every 12 minutes on Line 4 taking people to the Ottawa International Airport.
