Three dead, including infant, following two-vehicle crash in Quinte West

Three people are dead and a fourth is in hospital with serious injuries following a crash involving a minivan and a tractor-trailer on Highway 401 in Quinte West.

Around 1:15 p.m. on Nov. 9, the minivan collided with the rear of the tractor-trailer going westbound, just west of the County Road 40 interchange. Ontario Provincial Police have not released any details on the cause of the incident other than traffic slowed due to a prior collision.

A 25-year-old male and 22-year-old female were pronounced dead at the scene. An eight-month-old and four-year-old were transported to hospital where the infant was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

Westbound 401 was closed for several hours during an investigation.

The investigation by the Quinte West OPP is continuing, with assistance from OPP Collision Reconstructions and members of the Technical Collision Investigation Team, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner.
