Cold but mostly sunny weekend ahead for Ottawa

The nation’s capital is expecting lots of sunshine this weekend, but with the sun comes colder wind chills.

According to Environment Canada, Friday is supposed to be sunny but with wind gusts of 50 km/h, which drops the daytime temperature significantly. It is a high of -5 C but factoring in the wind chill it is -17 C this morning, warming up to a cool -10 C by the afternoon.

The wind is expected to slow down overnight to about 15 km/h, but it will be a chilly -21 C.

Saturday people can expect more sun but the cold wind will stick around for the morning forcing the temperature to hover around -21 C. By the afternoon things could warm up to a low of -11 C.

The last day of the weekend is when the sun is expected to disappear, the weather agency predicts. Ottawa could cloud over on Sunday and might see some flurries with a low of -4 C.

Mixed precipitation is in the forecast for early next week, which comes with the possibility of rising temperatures.
