It was a busy Christmas Eve for Ottawa firefighters who extricated two drivers from two separate crashes throughout the day.
Around 8:40 a.m., the Ottawa Fire Services received a call reporting a vehicle that had driven up and under the overpass at the 417 West and Eagleson Rd. The vehicle them became wedged underneath with a single occupant trapped inside.
Upon arrival, firefighters used cribbing to stabilize the vehicle before using special tools to remove the windshield and reach the driver.
Shortly after 9:00 a.m., the driver was safely pulled from the vehicle. Firefighters report the driver did not sustain any injuries.
With the driver outside, firefighters tied a rope to the frame of the vehicle and secured the other end to a cement pillar beside the overpass until the tow truck arrived.
The scene was cleared by 9:45 a.m. and left in control of the OPP.
Shortly before 3:30 p.m. the Ottawa Police Service received a call about a two car collision at the intersection of the Airport Parkway and Uplands Dr.
Upon arrival it was confirmed that two vehicles were involved in the collision but a single occupant was trapped in one of the cars.
Firefighters stabilized the vehicle and used special tools to extricate the occupant, which took approximately four minutes.
There was leaking fluid from the two vehicles so firefighters spread absorbents and disconnected batteries prior to cleaning the scene. Police did not report any injuries
