The City of Ottawa is gearing up to celebrate the municipality’s 200th anniversary, with special events at one of the city’s iconic summer events.
Bluesfest will have a dedicated day of programming on July 19 and will host civic pride and music. The Guess Who will headline that day of the music festival.
“Ottawa 200 will be an incredible celebration for our city. It’s a chance to honour our history, showcase our creativity, and bring residents and visitors together in a way only Ottawa can,” Mayor Mark Sutcliffe said in the press release.
Events will be taking place all next year to celebrate the anniversary of Bytown. Some of the themes will encompass reflecting on the city’s progress, diversity and creativity. Some events will include Indigenous community organizations and will focus on the cultural identity of the city and its residents.
“Welcoming The Guess Who to Bluesfest is more than a concert – it’s a cultural milestone interwoven with additional performances and festivities that launches a year of signature experiences,” Michael Crockatt, President and CEO, Ottawa Tourism, said.
Further events and plans will be announced in the coming weeks, the city teased.
