Crews battle basement kitchen fire in Overbrook

Firefighters arrived to find a basement kitchen in flames in the Overbrook community.

It happened in the 100 block of Prince Albert Street, and callers reported smoke and flames from a kitchen. A total of three people lived in the basement apartment in the single-family home, and all escaped.

Three minutes later crews arrived and brought a hose line into the home. Another team searched the entire building finding no more people but did bring the family’s cat to safety.

Water doused the flames in the kitchen before the fire could spread further and was declared under control nine minutes after crews arrived.

High-powered fans were used to get rid of residual smoke before the occupants could be let back in. No one was displaced, officials said.
