Charges laid after two drivers stopped for coffee in live highway lane

Ottawa OPP have laid several charges against the driver of a transport truck and that of a passenger vehicle who were both stopped in a live lane of traffic on Hwy 417.

It happened shortly after 5 p.m. on Feb. 8, when OPP came across the stopped vehicles near the Moodie Drive exit. The drivers had both stopped and were enjoying a coffee amidst the busy highway.

Both drivers were issued multiple fines under the Highway Traffic Act.

Officers also conducted a commercial motor vehicle inspection of the transport truck which was found to be under numerous violations. The transport company was also charged and the truck was temporarily taken out of service.
