G2 driver using girlfriend’s car charged with stunt driving

On Wednesday, the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Traffic Escort and Enforcement Unit charged three drivers with stunt driving in the Ottawa area.

Officers pulled over a G2 driver in his girlfriend’s vehicle, driving 116 km/h in the 60 km/h zone at Woodroffe and Norice Street, wrote OPS in an X post.

Additionally, another vehicle was traveling at 139 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Highway 174 at Tenth Line. They are now facing stunt driving charges.

In a third incident on March 13, a driver was travelling at 137 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Woodroffe and Grenfell Crescent, added police.

While police saw a drop stunt driving charges in 2024, stunt driving incidents are still trending high, noted officials. According to OPS, there were 370 stunt driving occurrences in 2024, compared with 416 in 2023.

In 2025, The Ottawa Police Traffic Enforcement Unit says they are directing more resources at addressing stunt driving in the nation’s capital.

“Stunt driving has consistently been one of our top priorities and it’s something we’ve focused on since the beginning of the pandemic,” explained Craig Roberts, Ottawa Police District Traffic Manager.

In another stunt driving incident in January 2025, OPS said an officer stopped a young driver in the city’s south end for excessive speeding.

The 17-year-old G2 driver was caught going 145 km/h in an 80 km/h zone along Limebank Road. According to OPS, the parents allegedly “loaned” the rental vehicle to the teen.

Following the incident, the driver faced a stunt driving charge, a licence suspension and a vehicle impound for 14 days, including fees for the rental car.
