Ottawa man among 3 deceased following head-on collision near Cornwall

A head-on collision east of Cornwall has left three people dead including on Ottawa man.

On March 13 shortly after 9 p.m., Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry OPP, local RCMP, and first responders were called to the scene of a collision on County Road 2 near McGibbon Road.

An initial investigation determined an eastbound vehicle crossed into the westbound lane, forcing at least two drivers to take “evasive action”. Moments later, police say a head-on collision was reported with one of the two vehicles catching fire.

The sole occupant of the eastbound vehicle, and the driver and one passenger in the westbound vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified as a 16-year-old female from Champlain Township, a 65-year-old female from Cornwall and a 44-year-old man from Ottawa. A 16-year-old male, the third occupant of the westbound vehicle, was airlifted to a regional trauma centre in serious condition.

OPP Collision Reconstructionists and Technical Collision Investigation Team members have completed the on-scene investigation and County Road 2 has been reopened, but the full investigation remains ongoing.
