Uninsured person suspended again while already under suspension

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Ottawa detachment stopped a driver on March 29, following an ALPR notification that indicated the registered owner of the vehicle was a suspended driver.

According to OPP, the driver received a second suspension for driving while under suspension.

Additionally, the vehicle was uninsured and the vehicle permit expired in 2023 due to $1,000 in unpaid fines. As a result, the vehicle was impounded for seven days, noted police.

In another case on March 31, Ottawa OPP stopped a driver for speeding on Highway 417 — traveling at 144 km/h.

The Ontario Provincial Police described the car as having a tinted plate cover and heavily tinted windows, including the front windshield.

Consequently, the driver is facing nearly $600 in fines, added police.

The Ottawa Police Service Traffic Escort & Enforcement Unit noted several cases of speeding last week.

On March 27, OPS stopped a 22-year-old driver for travelling 79 km/h over the posted speed limit on the Ontario side of the MacDonald Cartier Bridge.

The Ottawa Police Service noted that officers will continue to be stationed at one of the 18 Impaired Focus Areas throughout the city, with officers screening for signs of impairment.

Most recently, members of West D Platoon monitored for signs of Impairment on March 24, along Campeau Drive in Kanata.

“Impaired driving remains a dangerous and preventable risk to public safety,” said Ottawa police.

“If you suspect someone is driving impaired, please call 9-1-1 immediately. Your actions could help save lives,” they added.
