Ottawa police arrested three teenagers after a “rapid sequence of events” that involved an imitation firearm and a carjacking.
A 15-year-old male was in the parking lot of a Bank Street plaza when he attempted to steal an unoccupied vehicle. When the attempt failed, he brandished an imitation firearm and threatened the driver of another vehicle in the same parking lot, demanding their keys.
The victim was allowed to remove her child from the vehicle before the suspect drove away.
A witness to the situation saw the suspect littering from the stolen vehicle and confronted the teen. The 15-year-old waved the fake gun at the witness before driving away. Later that day, the vehicle was involved in a collision in a parking lot on St. Laurent Boulevard.
At this point, police were able to find the vehicle and take the teen into custody. Two 14-year-olds were found in the vehicle and were later released by officers.
The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Robbery Unit at 613-236-1222, extension 5116.
