Teen injured after vehicle is decimated, engulfs in flames

Emergency responders were called to Ottawa south on Thursday around 6:41 p.m. for a collision that saw a vehicle flipped on its roof.

Firefighters were called by Ottawa police to Riverside and Old Riverside drives, for a car that burst into flames with a driver stuck inside. Crews quickly arrived and found the vehicle resting on the edge of the roadway engulfed. Two bystanders had pulled the late teen driver from the wreckage at this point.

Officials grabbed a hose and brought it towards the vehicle. Another team created a medical area to assess and treat the driver for their injuries.

Paramedics later told CityNews that the male sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The man pulled from the car said he was the only occupant.

Firefighters used specialized tools to remove the passenger doors, allowing them to access and extinguish flames that had spread to the front dash.

Crews did search the vehicle to ensure no one else was inside and the fire was declared under control by 6:50 p.m. They stayed on scene to absorb the leaking fuels from the car.
