It’s feeling muggy and humid in the nation’s capital on Thursday as the humidex rises.
Environment Canada is noting a shift in temperatures this week that feels well above seasonal. The weather agency said that with the humidex factored in, temperatures could be near 30 C today.
The last time it was that warm on May 15 was in 1998, according to the weather almanac.
Overnight, the humidity is expected to break, dropping temperatures around normal to 14 C.
But the sticky weather will return to close out the week. Friday temperatures will again increase to around 31 C the weather agency predicts.
The forecast shows that paired with the high temperatures, there’s a risk of a thunderstorm in the afternoon.
The last time May 16 was this warm was again in a hot stretch in 1998, the almanac shows.
Normals for this time of year should be hovering around 20 C, Environment Canada’s website shows.
The long range forecast shows a return to seasonal temperatures and sun by early next week.
