An oversized car carrier trailer and vehicle were removed from the road by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) on Tuesday.
Police found the vehicle and stopped it on Highway 17 between Pembroke and Ottawa.
The MTO conducted a Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspection that police said revealed “major safety violations“.
The following issues were identified:
- Missing bearing cap (risk of wheel detachment)
- Insecure load
- No cab card/IRP registration
- No log book (no hours of service compliance since Alberta)
- No commercial registration
- No annual safety inspection
- Improper trip inspection
- Inoperative trailer brakes
As a result, the vehicle and large trailer were removed from the highway.
CityNews has reached out to OPP asking about any potential charges or fines related to this incident.
OPP are using this as an opportunity to remind people that commercial vehicle must meet all safety and registration requirements.
