Ottawa firefighters extinguish probable evening grease fire

Ottawa firefighters were on the scene at a home in the 700 block of Trojan Ave. in the Rideau-Rockcliffe neighbourhood Saturday evening for a cooking fire.

Firefighters say they received the call shortly after 7 p.m. and the initial report stated there was a fire in the basement caused by cooking oil.

When firefighters arrived at the tripled, it was confirmed that there was heavy smoke coming from the basement and smoke coming from the vents.

After four minutes, a working fire was declared to dispatch additional resources.

Firefighters initiated a fast attack with a hose line inside the structure.

High pressurized fans were used to ventilate residual smoke once the fire was extinguished.

No occupants were found inside and no injuries were reported.

An OFS Investigator was dispatched to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
