An Ottawa man is facing impaired driving related charges following a multi-vehicle collision on Hwy 417 near Metcalfe.

OPP say the collision occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Police say the driver of the vehicle at fault in a multi-vehicle collision was already a two-time suspended driver under the Criminal Code.

Two individuals, including the accused, suffered minor injuries and were transported to hospital.

Thirty-nine-year-old Saad Naser is now facing the following charges:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs;

  • Dangerous operation;
  • Drive while prohibited – two counts; and
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance.

The day prior, police were alerted to a 60-year-old suspended driver travelling on Hwy 417 near Maitland Avenue.

Upon speaking to the driver, OPP officers suspected he was under the influence. A roadside screening device was used and the driver was taken back to Ottawa Detachment for further testing.

Patrick Rooney is now facing the following charges:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus);
  • Driving while under suspension; and
  • Drive motor vehicle, no permit.

Both drivers have had their licences suspended for 90 days and vehicles impounded for seven days.
