Ottawa firefighters were busy throughout the night extinguishing fires in both of the city’s ends.
At 10:20 p.m. Friday night, Ottawa Fire Services was alerted to a fire visible through the window of a second-floor unit at a low-rise building in the 100 block of Beech St. in Kitchissippi.
Firefighters initiated a fast attack, getting the flames under control within 11 minutes.
The fire was contained and prevented from spreading to nearby units.
No occupants were found inside of the building. Firefighters did treat multiple dogs for smoke inhalation.
A short time later, calls were received from multiple 9-1-1 callers reporting flames on the main floor of a commercial building in the Rideau-Vanier neighbourhood.

Firefighters confirmed that smoke and flames were visible from the building.
No occupants were found inside and the fire was declared under control at 11:05 p.m.
High pressurized fans were used to ventilate residual smoke out of the structure.

There was a bit of reprieve before crews were called back to the city’s east end around 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning, to reports of flames visible from the back deck of a home.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they confirmed the back of the townhouse, located in the 1500 block of Briarfield Crescent, was engulfed in flames.
It took approximately an hour and a half to get the fire under control. Victim Services was also dispatched to the scene.
An Ottawa Fire Services Investigator is currently working to determine the cause of the fire.
A “fire watch” has been set up to monitor for any flare ups.
