OPS raid illegal shrooms shop for second time in a week

One additional person has been charged after Ottawa Police executed a search warrant at a place selling illicit psilocybin for the second time in a week.

Police executed the warrant at a location in the 100 block of Montreal Road on Oct. 9.

The same location was visited along with seven others on Oct. 3 resulting in nine arrests and the seizure of over $10,000 and 14 kilograms of dried psilocybin products.

Despite initial law enforcement action, police say the location at 100 Montreal Rd. re-opened.

During the Oct. 9 search, officers seized further quantities of magic mushroom products and $752.

As a result, one person has been arrested with possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance and possession of proceeds of crime.

“Police will continue to closely monitor the opening and re-opening of illegal shops selling controlled substances, including psilocybin, and will take decisive enforcement action to shut down these operations and disrupt the associated unlawful activity,” OPS said in a press release.

Officials are also warning property owners and landlords to come forward if they suspect or realize illegal drug sales are occurring at their properties. Police said knowing and allowing it to happen could result in criminal charges for the owner.
