Man in 80s in life-threatening condition following head-on crash

An elderly man is in life-threatening condition after a head-on collision in Nepean.
Ottawa firefighters were required to extract the drivers of two vehicles following the crash Sunday morning.
Ottawa Fire Services said it received the call from Ottawa Police Service around 8:51 a.m. and responded to the 2200 block of Prince of Wales Dr.
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed two vehicles had sustained extensive damage.
Responders said the vehicles were located approximately 150 feet apart and the drivers of both vehicles were trapped inside.
Firefighters stabilized both vehicles and began to extricate the trapped occupants using specialized hydraulic rescue tools.
The first driver was safely extricated at 9:05 a.m. and the second at 9:20 a.m.
Firefighters said the driver’s door had to be removed and the dashboard was lifted to free the driver’s legs.

Both vehicles were de-energized before clearing the scene. The roadway was closed during the rescue efforts but has since re-opened.
Three people were sent to hospital and one man in his 80s is reported to be in life-threatening condition, according to Ottawa police.
Investigators are asking for any witnesses of the incident or might have dashcam footage to come forward. Any information can be shared with the OPS Fatal Collision Unit at 613-236-1222, extension 2345 and Crime Stoppers.
