An Ottawa resident is dead after he was struck by an oncoming car near Perth early Saturday morning.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said that officers responded to Highway 7, between Highway 511 and Glen Tay Road. A minivan had left the road and was stuck in the snow in the ditch. A flatbed tow truck was just about to pull the van out of the ditch.
The van’s driver was nearby watching the situation when an oncoming car struck the tow and the minivan before crashing into the driver.
The 44-year-old man from the nation’s capital was transported to hospital, where he died.
Officials said the tow driver and the six people in the car were not injured. The roadway was closed overnight for the investigation.
Anyone who witnessed the crash, or has information or potentially relevant dashcam video, should contact Lanark OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
