Driver fined for failure to move for emergency vehicle

One driver has been fined just shy of $500 after failing to move into another lane for an emergency vehicle.

Ottawa OPP stopped a vehicle on Highway 417 on Mar. 18, when another vehicle came within a foot of striking the officer.

Police say there were no other vehicles around and the driver could have moved into the next lane to create space.

“Traffic stops are amongst the most dangerous aspects of a police officers job,” Ottawa Police said on X. “The unpredictability of other drivers on the road makes it especially hazardous for officers.”

Police were able to track down the driver using automated license plate registration. Officers tracked the driver down to his residence where he was handed a $490 fine.
