G2 drivers caught ‘racing’ down Hwy. 417 by police

Two young drivers are facing serious charges after a provincial police officer saw two vehicles racing down a west end highway.
It happened around 2:30 p.m. near Moodie Drive on Tuesday. An officer said they saw two cars “racing” down the highway. The pair of young men were stopped, and both were issued a 30-day roadside suspension.
Provincial police confirmed to CityNews that the vehicles were travelling well above the posted speed limit but the stunt driving charge issued is for street racing.
Both were G2 drivers and face a fine, demerit points and a one-year driving suspension if convicted.
This comes just after a vehicle was pulled over near the same area in the west end for stunt driving on Tuesday morning.
A driver is facing a possible $2,000 fine among charges after a police officer pulled over a car on Highway 417.
The incident happened around 8:00 a.m., provincial police said. It was seen in the high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane near Terry Fox Drive in the west end. Officials said the vehicle was travelling 162 km/h in the 100 km/h zone.
The driver had their licence suspended for 30 days, the car was impounded for two weeks and they face a minimum $2,000 fine and six demerit points if convicted.
Police said in the release, they also laid charges for having open cannabis in the car.
