Mild weather expected to reduce winter operations 2015 deficit

OTTAWA – The mild weather we are having might knock some numbers off the city’s winter operations budget deficit.
As of October, the deficit for this year was $13 million. Numbers for November are not yet available.
Public Works Manager Kevin Wylie says the deficit will likely shrink before the end of the year.
“November was a good month, and that will start to eat away at that deficit. And if December is a good month, it will further save us money,” Wylie told the Transportation Committee on Wednesday.
“I would anticipate a smaller deficit at the end of the year,” he added.
Wylie couldn’t give an estimate at this point as to how much the deficit might fall, but indicated it could be in the millions of dollars.
